(October 11, 2012) At the upcoming Battery Show in Detroit, SONICS will be demonstrating their innovative 20 kHz ultrasonic spot welder, as well as their operator-friendly wire splicer, showcasing the benefits of clean ultrasonic technology for battery assembly. Sonics’ MW20 universal metal spot welder yields reliable, reproducible results with pneumatic actuation, patented 90o self-orienting keyed horns and tips, and a rigid I-beam cast center frame. The MW20 provides lower operating costs for applications such as welding copper and aluminum foils and terminating cables. The system is available with an array of microprocessor-controlled power supplies, offering simple remote impulse actuation through sophisticated touch screen operation, with power outputs from 1500 to 6000 Watts (depending upon model and materials). Sonics MWS20 ultrasonic wire splicing system offers automatic splice width adjustment form 0.39 to 40 mm2 and its patented self-orienting horn permits simple and precise tool change in under one minute. With its unique single piece dual nodal mount horn and booster stack, the wire splicer streamlines wire harness assembly. Additional features for both systems include digital amplitude and force control; automatic frequency tuning; multiple job storage; PLC I/O interface connection; and upper and lower weld height settings. All units include soft-start overload protection circuitry; load regulation circuitry; and amplitude and pressure ramping. Ultrasonic welding is an environmentally “green” process that uses on-demand energy and eliminates the need for additional consumables such as solder, flux or crimps. Addition of 30kHz model for hand held welder series

SONICS recently introduced a new 30kHz model for its range of hand held welders, named the "H530". The 20 and 30 kHz hand held converters are both supplied with a standard ½” (12.7 mm) diameter flat-faced welding tip that attaches to an integral titanium front driver. This front driver has a ¼-28 threaded end to accept other standard or custom tips.
